LIMPOPO – The Spokesperson for the Makhuduthamaga Municipality, Lemson Moropjane, confirmed to Review that the traffic official, caught on video assaulting a civilian, has been issued with a letter of intention to suspend, pending investigation.

Moropjane said the official is required to provide the municipality with reasons why he should not be suspended within 48 hours.

Moropjane said the Mayor of Makhuduthamaga, Minah Bahula has condemned the incident in the strongest possible terms. She urged the Municipal Manager to act expediently and decisively on the matter and that she expects feedback soon.

“We wish to apologise to the public. The incident portrays a bad image and brings our municipality into disrepute. It is not like our municipal officials to behave like that. In our more than 20 years of existence as a local government, this is the first incident of this nature which not only belittles us, but also destroys our culture at the municipality. We hope the public understands the measures we have taken, which is commensurate with this act,’’ she said.

LIMPOPO – A video has surfaced on social media in which a traffic official attached to the Makhuduthamaga Municipality assaults a civilian.  The circumstances around the incident, however, remain unclear.

The incident apparently happened over the weekend at a filling station in Jane Furse and according to the Spokesperson for the Department of Transport, Matome Moremi-Taueatsoala, the employee belongs to the municipal traffic and not the provincial traffic department.

He added that the municipality will soon release a statement on the matter.

Review spoke to the municipality’s Spokesperson, Lemson Moropjane, who said they are still consolidating reports before steps will be taken.
