Taxi operators block roads in and around Seshego due to ongoing route dispute

Police are on the scene to monitor the situation.

POLOKWANE- Taxi operators from Seshego Polokwane Taxi Association have blocked Nelson Mandela and Polokwane Drive’s today (Wednesday), to forestall taxis from the Moletjie Taxi Association from operating and loading commuters from Seshego to Moletjie.

The move allegedly ensued in riots between the two associations after taxi operators from Seshego also blocked the artery routes used by the Moletjie Taxi Association.

Spokesperson for the Moletjie Taxi Association, Joseph Maleka told Review they are perplexed by the treatment they have received from the Seshego Taxi Association. “We have been working well together in the past. Our taxis would drop and pick commuters to Moletjie in Seshego but now they are unable to do so because of the riots.”

The Spokesperson for the Seshego Polokwane Taxi Association, Moshita Lekganyane, confirmed the incident but chose not to comment on the matter.

Review spoke to the Spokesperson for the Department of Transport, Matome Moremi-Tauatsoala, who said they had met with the two associations in the past regarding the matter and they agreed they will load according to their permits. “Failure to do so will prompt the MEC to halt the operation,” he said.

The R521, near the Polokwane Drive turn off, as well as Nelson Mandela Drive near the Seshego Circle Centre have been affected. Police are on the scene to monitor the situation.
