Limpopo pensioner tied up with wire, killed

The body of the 82-year-old man was discovered by family members a day after the murder.

LIMPOPO – A defenceless pensioner, John Mulaudzi (82) was recently tied up before being murdered in his house in Elim-Mutonga.

The late John Mulaudzi was found in a pool of blood with his legs and hands tied with wire.

Mulaudzi was alone at home when an unknown assailant gained entry by forcing the door open before attacking him.

After several failed attempts to get hold of him, worried family members went to look for him and this is how his lifeless body, with his hands and legs tied with wire, was found by relatives.

The incident is believed to have occurred last Wednesday evening, but his body was only found the following day.

The deceased’s son, Nditsheni Mulaudzi said he used to call his father to find out how he was keeping.

He added that it feels as if a part of him had been removed.

“The way in which he was killed was barbaric.

He was old, but still strong as he could still till the fields, and we never thought his life would be ended this way,” he said.

He indicated that many incidents of the same nature had happened in the area, with few arrests following. He added that he knew that his father was gone for good, leaving the family with many unanswered questions.

The Chairperson of Munna Ndinnyi, Badwell Mufunwaini said he was disturbed about what was happening in the Vhembe area.

“People are no longer safe, whether it be in the streets or at home. Crime is high here, even though we make it part of our agenda during our meetings. We are calling on whoever might have information that could help the police trace the suspects involved in crimes around here, to come forth and help them crack these cases,” he said.

Police Spokesperson, Brig Motlafela Mojapelo said the police launched a manhunt. Preliminary investigations revealed that the murder took place a day before the body was discovered, Mojapelo said. He added that the police have not determined the motive for the murder, but an investigation is underway.
