LIMPOPO – Limpopo traffic officials, SAPS and SANDF have continued their operation as part of the Department of Transport and Community Safety’s build up to transport month (October).

A joint-operation at Tzaneen in the Mopani District saw 38 vehicles; buses, minibus taxis and sedans, impounded for various traffic offences.

According to a statement by the department’s media liaison officer, Mike Maringa, most of the minibuses were found to be operating without valid permits.

“Six were discontinued for not being roadworthy. Four sedans were also impounded for operating illegally without necessary permits while four buses’ drivers were found to be operating without permits,” Maringa explained.

He added that the impounded vehicles will be released upon paying a prescribed amount and that operations will be intensified from this evening, due to anticipated high traffic volumes on the province’s roads.

Transport MEC, Mavhungu Lerule Ramakhanya has urged motorists to observe the road rules. “Road users who do not abide by the rules will face the full might of the law.”
