LIMPOPO – The Crime Intelligence Unit and K9 Unit have managed to rearrest a 21-year-old man who escaped from the Haenertsburg Police Station on Sunday, 30 August.

The man was previously arrested for residential burglary, rape, kidnapping and in a statement at the time, Police Spokesperson Col Moatshe Ngoepe deemed him a “potentially dangerous criminal.”

“A special task team was activated and members worked tirelessly to trace the suspect. The circumstances surrounding his escape are subject to ongoing police investigations,” he added in that statement.

Ngoepe confirmed that the man was rearrested when the two units followed up on information they received from members of the community.

“He was arrested at his hideout in Lebowakgomo and appeared in court today, 14 September,” Ngoepe told Review.

Ngoepe said the man was denied bail and his cases were postponed until 10 October for further police investigations.

Unconfirmed reports suggest that the man assaulted a woman at her home in Haenertsburg on the eve of his escape, however, Ngoepe could not confirm this and said it will form part of investigations.
