Deacon murders: MEC Rakgoale reacts to yet another incident of GBV

The MEC for Social Development, Nkakareng Rakgoale has sent her condolences to the Deacon family following the abduction and murder of Lizette and her mother, Hettie.

POLOKWANE – The women were abducted from their home in Welgelegen on Thursday afternoon and their bodies were discovered along the R37 road, next to the Kushcke off-ramp outside Polokwane the same evening. 

Lizette was a prominent businesswoman and much-loved figure in several circles. Their murder has sent shockwaves through the city.

In a statement, Rakgoale says their attack happened on the very day the provincial government hosted a Virtual Imbizo on gender-based violence (GBV) and Femicide. “The violent manner in which the women were attacked, indicates that more needs to be done when it comes to protecting the rights of the vulnerable people of our society.”

She added that social workers have been deployed to provide psycho-social support.to the family of the deceased as co-workers and employees. “As a department, we are confident that the police will arrest their killers soon.”
