The Limpopo Tourism Agency (LTA) has started various programmes and activities to welcome the president’s announcement of the country moving to lockdown level two.
Tourism was among the first industries to be closed in March and the LTA, in close collaboration with the Department of Economic Development Environment and Tourism (Ledet), will implement its recovery plan based on brand maintenance, refocusing of provincial tourism and rebuilding of the industry as a whole.
Polokwane Observer spoke to some businesspeople in the tourism industry, to hear what challenges they still face due to lockdown regulations.
Things are getting better but it is not yet where it used to be. Our regular clients are a bit easier to convince than prospective clients.
We have been paying for a permit to travel, ever since level 4. There have not been much bookings because most people did not have permits to travel. I thought it would be better when we moved to level 3, but we were still not able to load to full capacity. People are still sceptical to travel and finances are also an issue.
The move to level 2 is beneficial for us in the sector but we still struggle to convince clients to book with us. It is difficult to get new clients but some of the old clients, who had cancelled their bookings, are coming back.
