Police arrest 5 men for stock theft at roadblock on R101

The men are from Polokwane, Zebediela, Mookgopong and Mahwelereng, respectively.

LIMPOPO – Five men from the Polokwane, Zebediela, Mookgopong and Mahwelereng areas, respectively, are expected to appear in the Bela-Bela Magistrate Court soon on a charge of stock theft.

The men were arrested after found to be in possession of suspected stolen livestock during a routine police operation on the R101 road on Thursday morning.

In a statement, Police Spokesperson, Col Moatshe Ngoepe said the police were conducting a stop and search operation at the Waterfront traffic lights, when they stopped a vehicle which was towing a trailer loaded with cattle. “The police inquired about the documentation, origin and destination of the livestock, and when the men could not account for the animals, they were arrested on a charge of possession of suspected stolen livestock.:

Seven cattle and the vehicle were confiscated during the process, Ngoepe added.

“The five suspects are believed to be members of a stock theft syndicate that operates throughout the province.”

police urge livestock owners who have lost cattle recently to come and identify the stolen animals at the local compound in Bela Bela.
