Nothing is impossible for Mapula

Mapula Malele says her position as assistant manager at Shell Sediba has exposed her to different people and personalities who find it difficult taking direction from a woman.

POLOKWANE – Mapula Johanna Malele is one of millions of South Africans that have been working on the frontline during the Covid-19 pandemic, ensuring a sense of normalcy was maintained through the difficult period.

Mapula is the assistant manager at Shell Sediba, a position she has now held for a year. The 32-year-old says it is challenging but that she is learning a lot on the way. “This position has exposed me to different people and personalities who find it difficult taking direction from a woman,” she told Review

Mapula spends her free time with her children because she says time is limited, adding that there has been an element of fear working during the pandemic. “It’s not only my own safety that I’m worried about but that of my children too. It has not been easy knowing that you are exposed because of the work that we do, but I have to commend our employer for always putting our safety first and ensuring that proper safety procedures are practiced,” she said.

She added that working and surviving through the pandemic is a clear indication that nothing is impossible, especially when you put your faith in God.

Mapula says months such as Women’s Month that promote and celebrate women should be appreciated. “I believe that the strength of a woman is not something to be taken lightly because women are major role players in the world,” she concluded.
