Daily Covid-19 case average sees significant drop

A total of 26 918 test were conducted, with 4 513 new cases

On Saturday evening, President Cyril Ramaphosa announced that the country will move to lockdown level 2 come midnight on 17 August.

“In the last three weeks, the number of Covid-19 cases have dropped from more than 12 000 per day to around 5 000 per day, and the peak might have been reached,” Ramaphosa said.

According to the National Department of Health, on 15 August, a total of 26 918 Covid-19 tests were conducted in the last 24 hours, with 4 513 new cases. Regrettably, 121 more Covid-19 related deaths were recorded, bringing the total number of deaths to 11 677.

A total of 466 941 people have recovered from Covid-19.
