Collins is the man behind TalkTom, a messaging app like no other

Collins says one thing that pushed him into developing the app was the fact that he wanted to do something that could create employment opportunities.

POLOKWANE – “There is no other messaging app like TalkTom.” These are the words of the developer of the instant messaging application, Collins Thomas Mgbo who says TalkTom works like any messaging app, but its advantage is its functionality. The app, which is certified by Google, is user-friendly and allows up to 200 000 people in a group. Users who are added to groups are also able to see all previous messages sent so they are not left out in the dark.

“The app allows you to have private conversations and you are able to set a duration for private messages to remain before it gets deleted forever. Voice notes are very clear and the app is free to download,” said Mgbo. Another feature includes creating groups within large groups. The Nigerian native, who now lives in Legae la Batho and holds a diploma in international relations from Unisa, says he has always had a love for gadgets and that he has been following worldwide trends as he understands the world is transitioning towards the Fourth Industrial Revolution.

“Everything is moving online and I decided to participate and become relevant with what’s going on. I attended short courses online and I was able to develop TalkTom,” he explained.Collins says one thing that pushed him into developing the app was the fact that he wanted to do something that could create employment opportunities.”As an entrepreneur, I decided to do something that can create jobs for the people, especially as Covid-19 looms among us. I tried creating a thermometer app before but it didn’t work. From there, I thought of a messaging app,” he said.

TalkTom took Collins three months to develop with its intention for large corporations, hence the large group capacity. “With apps such as WhatsApp, Facebook and Messenger my competition is tough, but if they can do it, why can’t I? I want TalkTom to be bigger and better,” he said. The app is large, 54mb and Collins says he is working on reducing its size.

Apart from the app, Collins also owns Breed Love Pre-School and Day Care in Luthuli Phase 1 and he is also an artist who has two albums to his name. He is also the assistant secretary general of the Nigeria Union South Africa. TalkTom can be found on Google Play for download.
