Four die in fiery crash in Waterberg district

All the bodies were burnt beyond recognition, says Spokesperson for the Department of Transport, Mike Maringa.

LIMPOPO – Four people lost their lives in a head-on collision on the R516 road, earlier today.

The incident between a sedan and a truck occurred at around 09:30 next to the Kroomdraai Crossing in the Waterberg district.

Spokesperson for the Department of Transport, Mike Maringa, says both vehicles caught fire. “Four people from the sedan; the driver and three passengers, including a child, were burnt beyond recognition.”

The truck driver was seriously injured and was transported to a nearby hospital for medical attention, he added

“Preliminary investigations have revealed that over speeding and reckless driving were possible cause of the accident.”

The R516 road is closed to allow for forensic investigations and the clean-up of debris across the road. Motorists are advised to use alternative routes.
