What better way to spend the weekend with your family than exploring the beautiful scenery and attractions the province has to offer.

LIMPOPO – With intra-provincial travel now allowed, many families will be looking for quick getaways and exciting plans to make weekend’s worthwhile, and what better way to do it than exploring your own province.

With many scenic areas and popular tourist attractions, Review spoke to the Spokesperson for the Department of Economic Development; Environment and Tourism (LEDET), Zaid Kalla, who suggested the following destinations which are open for visitors.

Lekgalameetse Nature Reserve

Situated west of Ofcolaco and Trichardtsdal in the northern Drakensberg, this 18,718 hectares of mountain wilderness is a must visit.

See scenic mountainous landscapes, waterfalls and kloofs. You can go on self-game drives, take wildlife photography or go hiking at Lekgalameetse. Various accommodation options are available, including self-catering, a bush camp (log cabins) along a river stream and farmhouse-style guest houses.

Doorndraai Dam Nature Reserve

Nestled among the foothills of the Waterberg, south west of Potgietersrus, is the beautiful Doorndraai Dam Nature Reserve. The reserve is a birding and angling hot-spot and there is a variety of South African wildlife that one can see. Visitors are accommodated in four camping sites and daily visitors are also accepted.

Nwanedi Nature Reserve

In the foothills of the Venda mountains, near the northern reaches of the Kruger National Park, you will find Nwanedi Nature Reserve. The reserve is known for its dams and waterfalls, baobabs and ancient Venda mythology. Head out on a game drive, take to the water in a canoe or swim under a waterfall.

Schuinsdraai Nature Reserve

About 42 km due north of Groblersdal, surrounding the Flag Boshielo Dam (formerly known as Arabie Dam), lies Schuinsdraai Nature Reserve. The reserve is a popular destination for anglers and other water recreation activities and at the last count, there were over 3 000 different animals present.
