WATCH: Communities make our hands strong, says Lim top cop in announcing crime stats

Provincial Police Commissioner, Genl Nneke Ledwaba earlier today announced the provincial crime statistics for the period 2019/2020.

POLOKWANE – Provincial Police Commissioner General Nneke Ledwaba has officiated the release of provincial crime statistics of the 2019/2020 year at the Seshego Police Station earlier today.

Despite a few loose ends that the police are determined to work on, as Ledwaba termed it, he expressed his gratitude to the communities in assisting to bring perpetrators to book “by working hand in glove with the police”.

In his keynote address Ledwaba noted an increase in contact crimes with attempted murder at 4,3% and assault at 6,2%.

Ledwaba further emphasised the importance of community media and the community at large in assisting law enforcement agencies in the fight against crime. “The success or failure of law enforcement depends on the involvement of its community. “If it were up to the police alone, the statistics would not improve. It is only through a working relationship with community stakeholders that the police are able to execute their duties.”
