DBE releases combined 2020 matric examination timetable

The 2020 May/June examinations will run concurrently with the 2020 October/November exams.

LIMPOPO – This year’s Gr 12 learners will sit for their combined National Senior Certificate exams between 5 November and 15 December. This is according to the final combined matric examination timetable that was released by the Department of Basic Education on Wednesday, 12 August.

According to a media release issued by the department, the late commencement of the final Gr 12 examinations will allow schools and learners enough time to cover the curriculum and for revision of the syllabus.

A statement by head of communications, Elijah Mhlanga, said the May/June and October/November examinations will run concurrently and reminded candidates who registered for the examinations at the beginning of the year, that they will be allowed to write the combined exams.

“More than 1,1 million candidates are expected to sit for the combined 2020 matric exams and every registered candidate will receive an admission letter by the end of September. The letter will list the subjects for which they have registered and the examination centre at which they are writing.”

Registration for the examination has since been closed and no late registration will be entertained, Mhlanga added.

According to the set schedule, candidates who were originally scheduled to write the 2020 October/November examination, will write two papers each in business studies and accounting, whereas those who were scheduled to write the 2020 May/June examination, will write one paper each.

“The life orientation (LO) common assessment task will be written on Monday, 19 October. The practical examinations in computer applications technology (CAT) and information technology (IT) will be written prior to the official commencement of the examination, on Wednesday, 21 and Thursday, 22 October, respectively.”
