Water tankers arrive in Westenburg to provide relief

The Polokwane Municipality dispatched water tankers to the area to assist and bring relief after a pipe burst.

POLOKWANE – Westenburg residents are still without water after a water pipe was damaged by a fibre cable contractor working in the area yesterday afternoon.

The damaged pipe is in Buys Street near the corner of Buys and Peter Streets. This is the second pipe damaged over two days.

The municipality dispatched water tankers to the area to assist and bring relief. The water tankers go to each street in the community where residents can fill water containers for basic household needs.]

Westenburg residents wait to get their containers filled at the water tank dispatched by the Polokwane Municipality.

Ward Committee Member, Joosuf Pemma assisted on site to help fill residents’ containers. Municipal Spokesperson, Thipa Selala confirmed that municipal workers are working on the problem and had to close the water connection.

“After the pipe was fixed yesterday, an outflow was identified on the same line. We had to close supply to the area in order for the water team to fix the line. The team is still on site working on restoring water services to the Westenburg area. The municipality apologises for the inconvenience caused,” Selala said.
