‘Don’t give up just because business is tough’

As a single parent, Sadia Olivier advises others to hang in there even during the tough times

POLOKWANE – About three months ago, Sadia Olivier found an opportunity to start her own chicken business. As a single parent, the Polokwane resident said she had to think of something to ensure an income for her and her child.

Sadia says she has experienced a few challenges and has found it difficult at times as, she says, one needs money in order to make money.  Working with chickens hasn’t been easy and Sadia says she cleans them herself. “With the help of workers on the farm, I get a lot of work done. We must be willing to work hard if we want to sell good products to our customers,” she added.

Sadia advised to not give up easily when business gets tough, especially if you’re a single parent. “Your children depend on you only and you have to make a plan for them to have a brighter future than the one that you had,” she said.

Sadia says she sympathises with those who do not have an income as she has been there herself. “My heart goes out to them, especially because I have been there myself,” she said.

Sadia tries to hand out free chickens here and there to help out those in need, adding that it is in her nature to give to the less fortunate. “I don’t have much myself, but I believe an open hand receives. Always put yourself in other people’s shoes to understand what they go through,” she advised.
