N1 bypass: Take note of traffic deviations

The deviations will come into effect on Monday, 27 July.

POLOKWANE – The South African National Roads Agency (Sanral) has notified motorists of several traffic deviations which will be implemented to allow construction workers to complete Ramps B and C, for the N1-27 Polokwane Ring Road Improvement Project.

According to a statement issued by Sanral, the following revised deviations will come into effect on Monday, 27 July.

• Traffic travelling north to south on the N1 will drive on the southbound carriageway.

• Traffic travelling between Silicon and Polokwane will drive over the newly constructed overpass bridge using Silicon Road and Dorp Street.

• Access to Silicon Road and the Peter Mokaba stadium from the N1 south will be via the newly constructed Ramp A.

• To access the N1 south towards Pretoria, from direction Silicon, motorists will use Silicon Road and then turn right before the bridge to access the newly constructed Ramp D loop.

• To access the N1 south towards Pretoria from the city, motorists will use Dorp Street/Silicon Road and cross over the newly constructed bridge and turn left to access the newly constructed Ramp D loop.

• Direct access from Silicon Road to the N1 north will not be possible. To access the N1 north from Silicon, motorists will drive over the newly constructed bridge, turn right into Webster Street and turn right into Grobler Street (R71) where you will access the N1 North via the R71/N1 Interchange.

• To access the N1 north from Polokwane, use the R37 (Church Street) or the R71 (Grobler Street) access points.

• Direct access to the N1 north onto Silicon Road will not be possible. It is recommended to proceed to the R37, turn right at the N1/R37 intersection into the R37 (Church Street), turn right into Marshall Street and turn right into Dorp Street. (Refer to the illustration provided).
