Rameez Patel case postponed again

Judge Raulinga said the case, for various reasons, has lingered on for a very long time, and he wished to conclude it by December.

POLOKWANE – Rameez Patel’s case in the Polokwane High Court, where he appeared for the murder of his wife Fatima in April 2015, was once again postponed this morning (Friday) by Judge Joseph Raulinga.

Patel will re-appear in court from 21 to 25 September.

Raulinga said the case, for various reasons, has lingered on for a very long time, and that he wished to conclude it by December. He said he seldom had a case which lasted longer than a year.

Patel’s advocate, MahapaThipe said his client was running out of cash and he hoped that he would still be handling the case, and Raulinga said he hoped so, as he did not want the case to be postponed again.

Patel’s case resumed on Wednesday, and the court had to be adjourned for some time after he had broken dow emotionally on the stand when he testified about finding his wife’s body.  He maintained his innocence, claiming there might have been a burglary during the time he was not at home.

Adv Lethabo Mashiane for the state on Friday cross-examined Patel about the day of the murder.

Patel will appear again in court in the second case against him, the murder of his mother, in January 2021.
