Men in court for cell tower batteries

Five men were arrested by the SAPS provincial crime unit in two separate incidents, and will appear in court today.

LIMPOPO – Five men between the age of 27 and 42 were arrested in two separate operations conducted by the police’s provincial crime unit.

Four men were arrested in the Lebowakgomo policing area after the minibus they were travelling in, was pulled off the road and six cell tower batteries, of which they could not explain the origin, were discovered inside.

In a statement, Police Spokesperson, Col Moatshe Ngoepe, said their vehicle was confiscated and that the men will appear in the Praktiseer Magistrate’s Court today, 24 July. 

Meanwhile, a 42-year-old man will appear in the same court today after he was arrested for illegal mining in the Burgersfort area.

“The police’s provincial crime unit received a tip-off from the community about ongoing illegal mining activities at one of the local mines. The man was arrested and a excavator was also confiscated,” Ngoepe said. 

The officials were commended for their work by the Provincial Commissioner of SAPS, Lt Gen Nneke Ledwaba.

Ngoepe added that police investigations are still continuing.
