Happy babies at Ngwana, thanks to NCAW

The donation was made as part of the organisation’s Mandela Day contribution.

POLOKWANE – Nelson Mandela once said that the true character of a society is revealed in how it treats its children.

In order to make a difference, the National Council of African Women’s (NCAW) Polokwane Branch, on Mandela Day, donated nappies to Ngwana Babyhouse, which is home to abandoned children. The NCAW is a non-profit organisation which aims to encourage and facilitate education and development in communities across South Africa.

Thulamsindo Raphotu, on behalf of the NCAW explained that the donation of nappies is the beginning of their information-seeking mission in which they plan to educate young mothers not to abandon their children and to rather use prevention or opt for pre-adoption. “This year, only three members were able to be part of the handover as a result of Covid-19 regulations, however, we all give our full support to the donation which is much needed by the baby house,” she said.

Sandra Jansen Van Rensburg, House Mother at Ngwana Babyhouse thanked NCAW for the donation, adding that they were grateful for the nappies as this is their biggest monthly expense. “We are thankful for the donation. Mandela Day is usually one of the busiest days where we receive lots of donations, but this year was quite different due to the pandemic,” she said. Jansen van Rensburg further thanked all other donors who have also taken the time to give back to the home regardless of the difficult times faced.

The home is in desperate need of weekly donations of fruit and vegetables and she urged anyone who is able to help to donate to the home or contact Sandra at 078 451 1216.
