CBD crash: Search is on for this vehicle and its driver

The driver of a red Renault Kwid, who according to the police was involved in last night's collision in the CBD and left the scene, is sought by police.

POLOKWANE – The driver of a red Renault Kwid, is sought by the police in Polokwane. No registration number was provided.

The driver is said to have caused a collision involving three motor vehicles, while being chased by members of the Highway Patrol Unit in the city at around 20:30 last night.

“The collision claimed the life of one motorist who smashed into a police vehicle while trying to avoid the collision. The police vehicle in turn smashed into a stationary vehicle on display. The three police members were taken to hospital with serious injuries,” Police Spokesperson, Brig Motlafela Mojapelo said in a statement.

Mojapelo said the Renault then disappeared and that a manhunt has been launched.

The police in Polokwane are on the hunt for an unknown motorist driving a red Renault Kwid, who allegedly caused the resulting collisions while being chased down by members of the Highway Patrol Unit in the City on Saturday night.

“Anyone with information about the said vehicle is requested to contact the investigating officer, WO Philipus Wolhuter at 082 775 4012, the crime stop number at 086 001 0111 or the nearest police,” he concluded.
