LIMPOPO – Two of the four men who were arrested on Wednesday, 17 June for the possession of illicit cigarettes, have appeared in court.
The police in Alldays in the Makhado cluster confiscated 30 boxes of Remington Gold and Pacific Blue cigarettes, found hidden between crates of tomatoes.
Police Spokesperson, Brig Motlafela Mojapelo said in a statement at the time that police received information about two trucks transporting tomatoes as well as boxes of cigarettes. The trucks are believed to come from a farm near the Pontdrift border post and was intended to travel to Rustenburg in North-West.
Two of the suspects, aged 26 and 27, appeared before the Senwabarwana Magistrate’s Court yesterday, 16 July.
Police Spokesperson, Col Moatshe Ngoepe said in a statement that John Setjo (27) pleaded guilty and was sentenced to three years’ imprisonment with an option of a R17 000 fine.
The case against the other accused was withdrawn by the court while a police investigation into the two other accused is still ongoing.
