Contact numbers in case of crime

The Community Policing Forum chairperson says they have also been granted permission to patrol the streets under lockdown level three regulations.

POLOKWANE – The Acting Community Police Forums (CPF) Chairperson, Trevor van Niekerk says the CPF in Polokwane is working towards strengthening the relationship between the community and the Polokwane SAPS.

Van Niekerk says because every person matters, the CPF and SAPS encourages one and all to work with them towards a crime-free Polokwane. “Please get involved with the CPF in your area,” he urged.

According to Van Niekerk, Polokwane has numerous socio-economic challenges that can be better addressed through the community’s involvement.

“The Polokwane Police Station is managed by a very capable Brig Gift Makhubele who is not afraid to lead his troops in person.”

He emphasised that the CPF is not trying to take over the work of the police, but, rather, they are the eyes and ears of the police on the ground. “A team of sector commanders from the SAPS is at the community’s disposal to help develop community involvement and relations.”

Van Niekerk explained that the CPF has been granted permission and permits to patrol the streets once again under the new level three lockdown regulations and they hope to alleviate crime. “Now that a curfew has been put in place from 21:00 to 04:00, we will be patrolling the various sectors to assist the police in their line of work.”

He told Review that the CPF noted an increase in crime over the past few weeks, which includes house break-in’s, predominantly in the Bendor area, robberies and smash-and-grabs in the CBD area. “We have also noted an increase in farm attacks and we urge residents to first contact the police, and then the CPF should they come across any form of crime.”

Trevor says residents should remain vigilant at all times and exercise the highest form of precaution when at home or at work.
