[VIDEO] COSAS closes four local schools as Covid-19 cases increase

Learners were sent home by the Congress of South African Students (Cosas) and told not to return before the Minister of Basic Education, Angie Motshekga provides a plan to salvage the academic year

POLOKWANE – The Congress of South African Students (Cosas) earlier today, closed four schools in the Seshego area as part of their nationwide call for schools to be closed due to the increase in Covid-19 cases. Learners from Letlotlo Primary School, Masidibu High School, Moruleng High School and Mohlakaneng High School were sent home and told not to return before the Minister of Basic Education, Angie Motshekga provides a plan to salvage the academic year, without learners physically attending school. Cosas’ Provincial Secretary, Sello Mahladisha says what happened in Seshego, happened across the province, to ensure the safety of learners.

We spoke to learners at  Mohlakaneng High School who support the closure of the school.

Translation of video: The teachers should give us lessons to do at home, maybe we can create WhatsApp groups, or find another way to receive information. Teachers should give us tools and tips on how to study at home. At the end of the day, it’s up to us if we study or not, it is their responsibility to make a plan on how we will write exams.
