Foreign national arrested for transporting drugs from Polokwane

Another five men were also arrested by members of Limpopo Highway Patrol for various crimes.

LIMPOPO – Operations conducted by members of Limpopo Highway Patrol have led to the arrest of six suspects for various crimes.

Police Spokesperson, Brig Motlafela Mojapelo, said in a statement that the operations were conducted across the province since Sunday, 12 July until the early hours of yesterday.

“On Sunday at around 19:00, members were patrolling along the R37 road next to Podungwane when they spotted a suspicious vehicle at a garage in the Lebowakgomo policing area. A white Volkswagen Polo without registration plates was stopped and found with three occupants inside. The vehicle was searched and it was discovered that the license disc had been tampered with,” the statement reads.

Mojapelo said the three men, aged between 26 and 32, were arrested for driving the vehicle with fraudulent documents.

Another arrest was made at around 19:30 when information was received by community members about a silver Volkswagen Polo sedan transporting drugs from Polokwane to the Lebowakgomo policing area.

“The vehicle was followed until it reached a filling station when police moved in tactically and managed to arrest a 39-year-old foreign national in possession of drugs with an estimated street value of R15 000,” Mojapelo added.

Meanwhile, two more men were arrested in the early hours of Monday, 13 July for travelling at a high speed.

“Police were on patrol on the R36 road next to Lenyenye outside Tzaneen, when they came across a White Golf 6 with two occupants travelling at a high speed. A car chase ensued until the vehicle was cornered and searched.”

Mojapelo said police found ammunition inside the vehicle and discovered that the vehicle was reported stolen in Mamelodi East, Gauteng.

“Both the men, aged 27 and 30, were apprehended for being in possession of a suspected stolen motor vehicle and illegal possession of live ammunition,” he added.

Mojapelo said all the arrested suspects are expected to appear before the local magistrate’s court soon.
