Mom (90) and daughter (60) shot and killed in their home

Another family member escaped unhurt and nothing was stolen during the incident.

LIMPOPO – The police in the Tshilwavhusikhu policing area are on the lookout for at least one more suspect who was involved in the killing of two elderly women on Sunday, 14 June.

According to a statement by Police Spokesperson, Brig Motlafela Mojapelo, four men between the age of 24 and 46 were arrested and at least one more suspect is at large.

“Five armed men forced entry into a house at Gogobole village by breaking the window at around 21:30. They started shooting at the family members, killing a 90-year-old woman and her 60-year-old daughter. One family member escaped unhurt,” Mojapelo said.

The deceased have been identified as Matamela and Martha Ramala.

The statement added that nothing was taken from the house.

“The horrendous nature of these crimes necessitated a 72-hour activation plan. In less than 24 hours, the police managed to arrest four suspects on 15 June,” Mojapelo said.

Acting Provincial Commissioner, Maj Gen Jan Scheepers applauded the police for arresting the suspects soon after the crimes were committed and instructed them to bring the remaining suspects to book.

“The motive behind this incident is currently not known and will be determined by the unfolding investigations,” Mojapelo added.

The suspects appeared before the Tshilwavhusikhu Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday, 17 June on two counts of murder and their case was postponed to 23 June, for formal bail application and further police investigations.

Anyone with information that can lead to the arrest of the remaining suspect is requested to contact Capt Shiela Buys at 082 565 8432, the Crime Stop number at 086 001 0111 or the nearest police.
