Elderly man gets lodged under cupboard; dies

A cupboard that fell over seems to have been the reason behind the death of a man in Lwamondo-Mathule outside Thohoyandou

LIMPOPO – His daughter discovered him in his bed last Monday and a source close to the family told CV that although they found the circumstances leading to the death “sketchy”, the deceased, Mmbofheni Nevondo (63) might also have suffered a fit.
“He used to be dizzy a lot. We suspect he had a fit and somehow got in the way of the cupboard as he fell. Once the cupboard then fell on him, there was no way for him to push it back up again.”
Nevondo was still alive when his daughter found him, and the family immediately called an ambulance. Emergency services personnel attempted to resuscitate him, but he was eventually certified dead.
“We are still devastated about the matter. He was also a staunch member of the Lwamondo-Mathule Lutheran Church and made sure we were cared for,” she said.
Limpopo Police Spokesperson, Brig Motlafelo Mojapelo said the police in Vuwani opened an inquest after the man was discovered after a cupboard had apparently fallen on him.
He was certified dead at the scene, he confirmed.
Meanwhile, Dr Bardwell Mufunwaini of Munna Ndi Nnyi, who grew up with the deceased, said he had lost a good friend.
“We started primary school together and he was a good person. I am deeply saddened by his death, as we used to keep in contact through the years,” Mufunwaini said.
