Polokwane Game Reserve reopens – here’s when

The reserve is among several provincial reserves which will be open to the public.

POLOKWANE – The Polokwane Game Reserve will be open to the public as from Monday, 15 June at 08:00.

Thipa Selala, Spokesperson for Polokwane Municipality says the reserve will open for self-drive excursion activities as guided by the Lockdown Alert Level 3 regulations published in the Government Notice No. R480 of 29 April 2020.

“It should be noted that no person will be allowed entry into the reserve if they do not adhere to health and safety protocols. These include:
• Screening;
• Wearing of a face mask or any appropriate item that covers the nose and mouth; and
• Maintaining social distancing.

Selala adds that accommodation, education centre and the picnic area at the Polokwane Game Reserve will remain closed.

The Limpopo Department of Economic Development, Environment and Tourism (LEDET) on Wednesday, 10 June also announced the reopening of several state-owned reserves in the province. These include:
• Makuya Nature Reserve
• N’wanedi Nature Reserve
• Lekgalameetse Nature Reserve
• Wolkberg Nature Reserve
• Blouberg Nature Reserve
• Doorndraai Dam
• Schuinsdraai Dam
• Rust de Winter Dam
• Moloko Dam; as well as
• Masebe Nature Reserve.

The department says the public are encouraged to take advantage of the easing of restrictions on the tourism sector but are advised to adhere to the health and safety regulations which are meant to protect them from the pandemic and to lessen the spread of the virus.
