Man arrested for plotting to defraud SASSA

The man had offered money to an official at the Post Office in exchange for Sassa cards

LIMPOPO – A 41-year-old man was remanded in custody after appearing before the Bolobedu Magistrate’s Court this week. He was arrested on Monday by the Serious Corruption Investigation unit after they received a tip-off about a man attempting to defraud Sassa.

Spokesperson for the Hawks, AC Sampo Maaboyi says on Monday the members received information from the Tzaneen Crime Intelligence that a man had approached a Post Office official in Mokwakwaila village and requested him to provide 250 Sassa cards in exchange for R10 000 gratification.

“An undercover operation was conducted the same day and the accused was arrested after he offered the money to the a Post Office investigator.”

Cash to the amount of R10 000 and 250 Sassa cards were also seized.

The accused will appear in the same court on 17 June to apply for bail.
