POLOKWANE – The #IamAVillager campaign, which is a social intervention programme, benefits 100 families.

The campaign is the brainchild of MKL Security and was launched on 30 May, to assist families in rural spots by providing them with packages consisted of necessities to survive the pandemic. Working together with various stakeholders to make the campaign a success, 100 families were identified in nine villages with the help of indunas and councillors to hand over the packages. The packages consists of masks, sanitiser, vitamins as well as food.

Kgabo Nelly Lamola, the Director of MKL Security, explained that the #IamAVillager campaign started as a result of the lockdown in an attempt to assist those without the basic needs for survival during this difficult time.

“We wanted to plough back into the community and I am overwhelmed at the positive response we have received thus far. This is not the end, we are going forward to help even more families in need,” she said.

She extended a word of thanks to the various stakeholders; Dr MM Mapula, Dr PW Mahlogo, Foodzone, KJ Fashion Designers, Energy FM, Seshego Victim Empowerment Centre and Bothlale Ba Thutong that have generously supported the campaign.

Meodi Mothapo, a volunteer for the campaign, explained that it is anchored on the fact that no matter how successful a person becomes, their roots remain a village somewhere. “As villagers, let us take care of one another. If we keep making sure that everyone is okay, then one day, we will all be okay.”

Over two days, the #IamAVillager campaign visited Ga-Semenya, Ga Setati, Ga-Matabanyane, Ga-Mabitsela, Marowe, Moletjane, Ga-Kobo, Ga-chokoe and Mashobohleng where the 100 families were identified.
