DJ Happie puts you in the mood to dance
Amos Phalama Mothiba is an up-and-coming DJ from Nobody, known by his stage name, DJ Happie.
POLOKWANE – Up-and-coming DJ, Amos Phalama Mothiba hopes he can create a legacy to be able to provide platform for talented up-and-coming DJ’s. The man from Nobody village in Paledi has honed his DJ skills through various apps available to DJ’s.
Amos started using these apps at the age of 13 and later upgraded when he bought himself some DJ equipment. His stage name, Happie, was given to him by his family as they say hearing his music puts them in a happy mood and makes them want to dance.Â
“The challenge I face is to progress to a radio DJ, because you require sharp skills for that,” Amos says.
Amos works hard to reach his goals and has submitted his mixtapes to various radio stations. After eight months of rejections, he finally caught a break when one of his tapes was played on a local radio station and received positive response from listeners.
This was a very exciting time for him and proved to him that the wait was worth it.
“I experienced more challenges as I went along. I struggled to get gigs at clubs or pubs in an attempt to make my mark in the industry. It was only known DJ’s who played at such places and people like me were not given a chance as we are unknown. I did not give up.”
After struggling for months to get a gig, Amos finally succeeded in getting a gig at a local chesanyama around the area he lives. Things started looking up for him as this gig gave him great exposure.
Amos has met various musicians who helped shaped him to become the great DJ he is today.
“If you want to enter into the music industry, you have to work hard and have passion and dedication or else you will not make it and will give up before you reach your dream.”
He draws his inspiration from various artists including Vidasoul, Limpopo Rhythm and Mastershine.
