EFF stages peaceful protest against racism, police brutality

Brutal treatment is not acceptable, EFF Provincial Chairperson Jossey Buthane stated.

POLOKWANE – This morning, members of the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) protested peacefully outside the Police Station in Polokwane against racism and police brutality. The protest comes in the wake of national condemnation over the death of Collins Khosa, allegedly at the hands of the South African National Defence Force as well as global condemnation of the murder of George Floyd by a policeman in the US.

EFF Provincial Chairperson, Jossey Buthane, who led the protest, told Review that as a party, they were as affected as most people were.

“We took matters into our own hands to protest against police brutality, to make the defence force aware that brutal treatment against ‘so called suspects’ never really solves anything. We just want to see justice not only in our country but everywhere across the world. This kind of behaviour from the police should not be accepted at all,” he said.

Buthane says as citizens, safety is of utmost importance when one sees the defence force or policemen and people are not meant to be scared or threatened. “What happened shouldn’t have happened and no one deserves to be treated like that regardless, and this is why the hashtag #BlackLivesMatter is very important at this stage,” Buthane said.
