POLOKWANE – According to lockdown level three regulations, these centres may resume operations as of 1 June.
Thipa Selala, Spokesperson for Polokwane Municipality, in a statement said that the validity period of all driver licences, temporary driver licences, learner licences, vehicle licence discs, and temporary professional driver permits (PrDP) that expired between 26 March 2020 and 31 May 2020, has been extended for 90 days from 1 June 2020.
“Motorists who fall within this grace period category are advised not to panic by flocking to licensing stations, as they do have the grace period available for renewal.”
With that said, he added that transactions affected by the lockdown will be given preference at the centre.
These include the following services that expired prior or during the lockdown period:
- Registration of motor vehicle and licences.
- Renewal of driving licences.
- Postponed learner licences booked prior to the lockdown period.
- Roadworthiness tests that are pending completion prior the lockdown.
- Dealerships bulk transactions pending completion prior the lockdown.
- Collection of driver licence cards delivered before lockdown.
He reminded the public that the centres will be operating with limited staff and will be open from 07:00 to 17:00 daily, excluding weekends and public holidays.
He reiterated that no one will be allowed to access any of centres without a face mask and that social distancing must also be maintained at all times. Traffic officials are on the scene to regulate traffic flow.
