Rabbit’s Pizza is hopping to the top of people’s pizza choice

28-year-old, Xitsakiso Election Baloyi says his aim is to create pizzas that are mouth-watering and appealing to the eye.

POLOKWANE – It was founded by the 28-year-old, Xitsakiso Election Baloyi who decided to take advantage of the lockdown by trying his luck at pizza making. Baloyi is from Ka N’wamitwa village in Tzaneen but currently resides in Mamadimo Park in Mankweng.

“This started as a random recipe try-out at home when I decided to prepare pizza from scratch.

“I posted the photos on social media where they garnered interest and people asked if I was selling the pizza. That’s when I decided to take advantage of the opportunity that had presented itself to me,” he said.

Rabbit’s Pizza falls under Rabbit Group which has other projects running under the same name.

The name Rabbit comes from an incident where he ran over a rabbit and the word stuck with him when he registered his events management company days later.

“We have one pizza we call ‘Rabbit’s Famous Pizza’ which is a combination of various flavours and indulged with extra yummy cheese,” he said, adding that the aim was to create pizzas that are mouth-watering and appealing to the eye.

As a young black entrepreneur, he says his biggest challenge is lack of resources which has resulted in having to save money from one project to put into the next, which hampers profit and slows down growth prospects.

“It’s amazing that a few black people are in the pizza businesses, whereas the majority of the staff are black and so is the market. Our mentality and exposure has been limited, we end up classifying other businesses as a white person’s business since we know little about them. I actually believe that if one can think of something, they can do it and that’s the mentality I had towards all my business ? hard work with excellence,” he added.

The response to the pizza business has been great leading to Xitsakiso starting a branch in Tzaneen.

He also receives calls from people as far as Durban and Johannesburg asking if the pizza is available in their areas. He has big plans of having franchises of Rabbit’s Pizza in different towns around the country.

He plans to have it be recognised as the number one pizza choice in South Africa.
