Mall of the North issues statement after shopper tests positive for Covid-19

The necessary protocols were followed and the centre took additional measures to sanitise.

POLOKWANE – Mall of the North in Polokwane this morning issued a press statement after a shopper tested positive for Covid-19.

“The mall remains fully open for trade and is committed to create a safe shopping environment,” Sumari de Ridder, General Manager at Mall of the North, said in the statement.

She confirmed that a shopper who recently visited two shops at the centre, tested positive and the matter was subsequently reported to mall tenants and management.

Covid-19 shopper: No need for panic, says Health MEC

The correct protocols were followed and the relevant authorities were notified, De Ridder said.

“In accordance with government protocols, the shops involved implemented the screening of staff members, and undertook full decontamination and sanitising within their store.  In addition to Mall of the North’s usual nightly deep-clean regime, we undertook an additional disinfection of the entire mall,” the statement continues.

“We do expect that this might happen again as winter is approaching and illnesses will increase, and it would possibly also happen at other malls and shopping centres,” she concluded.

This is a developing story for which an update will be posted once more information could be confirmed.
