Local residents on the distribution of food parcels
BONUS spoke to residents about how food parcels are distributed in their communities and what can be improved to make sure they reach people who are in need.
LIMPOPO – Since the beginning of the lockdown, residents, local organisations and businesses have donated food parcels to families in need. In some areas, ward councillors have distributed themselves and ANC, ward 25 councillor in the Lepelle Nkumpi Municipality, Mabote Makgati says they make sure the parcels go to families who need them.
He told BONUS that the lists of recipients are compiled and families with no income are prioritised. “As a community leader, I know people from my community but together with other leaders, we work together to identify those families in need.”
Makgati said a challenge they face is that there are more people in need than there are parcels available, which has led to several residents complaining about unfair distribution.
