Tip-off leads to duo selling stolen firearms

The firearms were stolen during a robbery in Letsitele in February this year.

LIMPOPO – Two men, found to be selling firearms which were stolen during a robbery on a farm in Letsitele, were arrested for the unlawful possession of firearms and ammunition as well as a burglary.

Police spokesperson, Brigadier Motlafela Mojapelo said detectives arrested the duo at a house in Dan village in the Ritavi policing area on Monday, 25 May, following a tip-off.

“Police followed up on information about a man selling firearms, went to the house and questioned the two suspects. The arrest was effected, and two rifles with ammunition, believed to have been stolen during a house robbery at a farm in the Letsitele area outside Tzaneen in February this year, were confiscated.”

At the time, it was reported that a group of suspects broke into the farm house in the afternoon and stole firearms, camera and passports.

The 21-year-old accused has since been positively linked to the robbery.

Mojapelo says the two are likely to be linked to other serious and violent crimes committed around Tzaneen.

They will appear in the Nkowankowa Magistrate’s court on charges of burglary and unlawful possession of firearms and ammunition.

A manhunt for the remaining suspects involved in the house robbery is still underway and the police urge anyone with information that can lead to their arrest, to contact Det Sgt Lucas Raseala at 076 618 0899. Alternatively they can contact the 24-hour Crime Stop number at 0860010111 or the nearest police station.

The Provincial Police Commissioner, Lt Genl Nneke Ledwaba commended the community for continuously providing the police with quality and valuable information.
