Limpopo farmer, wife and daughter attacked

A group of nine men accosted the farmer early yesterday morning, where he was preparing to feed his livestock.

LIMPOPO – A manhunt has been launched for a group of people responsible for the attack on a family on the Bellevue farm in the Tinmyne area outside Mokopane on Sunday.

According to police reports, a group of nine people stormed the farm at around 08:15, where they first accosted the 49-year-old owner of the farm while he was preparing to feed the livestock. He was tied up and bundled into his vehicle.

Police Spokesperson, Brig Motlafela Mojapelo said the suspects then drove the vehicle to the homestead where they accosted the man’s 40-year-old wife and his 12-year-old daughter and tied them up.
It is alleged, according to Mojapelo, that the men then demanded the codes for the family’s safe, before they ransacked the house and fled in the farmer’s vehicle. They made off with cash, four cellphones, a tablet, five firearms and jewellery.

The stolen items are valued at around R500 000.

A search was launched and the police together with the help from the local community and members from the Heritage Protection Group (HPG) found the farmer’s abandoned vehicle in the bushes close to Sepharane village.

No arrests have been made yet and the police urge anyone who has information which can lead to their arrest, to contact Col Mmapitsi Sekotlong at 082 565 8426. Alternatively, they can contact the 24-hour Crime Stop number at 08600 10111 or the nearest police station.

Police investigations and a manhunt are still underway.
