Mokopane Development Forum invites companies to fight social ills

The forum says they have donated to 50 families and want businesses to join hands to make the lives of Mogalakwena communities better.

MOKOPANE – The Mokopane Development Resource Forum (MDRF) engaged 10 wards within Mogalakwena with regard to their social relief programme, after they identified households who are financially strained and in need of intervention to be able to survive the lockdown financially.

The list of the identified houses was submitted to the South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) to be assessed as to whether they qualify for food parcels. The forum secured special permits from Sassa on 14 and 15 May to embark on the distribution of food parcels.

MDRF secretary, Mahlatse Kgosana said: “Through our organisational activities, Champions of the Environment Foundation made a contribution of food parcels to the forum and then we distributed to the identified needy households.”

The forum told Bosveld they identified five households per ward within Mogalakwena and they have donated to 50 families. Selected wards are 31, 29, 22, 25, 21, 24, 12, 28, 10 and 11 which will cover the Mokopane and Bakenburg areas within the Mogalakwena Municipality.

Areas include Phola Park, Mozombana, Ga-Madiba, Masehlaneng, Maroteng, Dikgokgopeng, Hospital View, extension 14 and extension 17.

“On the journey to various wards, we encountered with shock the sad situations many households find themselves in. We found an ill man who is living alone in a one-room shack and dusty floor,” said Kgosana.

Areas with severe water challenges and children-headed households with no source of income and food were also identified.

The forum was reminded that its founding principles are based on improving people’s livelihoods through inter-generational learning as well as the unbundling of socio-economic opportunities for the benefit of all.

They are committed to intensifying its social impact activities, including giving rise to individuals who are committed to tackling social ills and overcoming all barriers that hamper the previously disadvantaged communities from living a good quality life.

Kgosana said the forum would therefore like to thank the Champions of the Environment Foundation, Kolobe Agricultural Farming Cooperative and Folang Trust for their contributions.

The forum invites other organisations and businesses to join hands with them in fighting these social ills towards making the lives of Mogalakwena communities efficiently better.
