Host a virtual Mother’s Day celebration this year

With the lockdown regulations that restrict travelling, you might have to make an alternative plan this year to treat the most important woman in your life.

Mother’s Day is traditionally the one day in a year when a mother should be able to sit back, relax and be spoiled by her children. While most moms find themselves surrounded by children and even grandchildren on the day, that might this year not be possible given the lockdown regulations that restrict travelling and encourage physical distancing.

This year, you may have to make an alternative plan to celebrate the most important woman in your life.

We put together a few fun ideas:

• Send your mom a video message. Get your whole family to be part of the fun and sing a song for mom; or simply send a happy message.

• Arrange with your dad or your moms’ significant other to make her breakfast in bed and then open up a Zoom-meeting for the whole family to enjoy together.

• Pre-order coffee and breakfast from her favourite restaurant and have it delivered to her early in the morning.

• Find some workshop or class online that both you and your mom can enjoy doing on the day.

• Create a virtual photo album with memories from the past year.

• Take virtual tours with your mom to other countries, museums and parks.

Take an interactive trip to the top of the Eiffel Tower, visit Peru, and admire the wonder that is the Northern Lights

• Plan a virtual happy hour where you and your mom create your own cocktails.

• Have a Netflix party where you and your mom can watch the movie together and even chat about your favourite scenes.

• Plan a virtual picnic where both of you lay out a blanket on the grass and enjoy snacks together while using a tablet to communicate.

• Have a virtual paint and wine experience where you each have a glass (or bottle) of wine and paint a picture together.
