Food for 10 families, thanks to Mrs Polokwane

The true gift is giving in a time of need, Mapula Legodi believes.

POLOKWANE – Mrs Polokwane 2020, Mapula Legodi believes donating is a selfless act.
“One of the major positive effects of donating just about anything, is simply feeling good about giving. Being able to give back to those in need, helps you achieve a greater sense of personal satisfaction and growth,” she said.

Mapula recently donated food to 10 families in and around Polokwane, with some families consisting of more than 11 individuals staying under one roof. Donations were made in areas such as Seshego, Polokwane, Greenside, Ga-Mamabolo, Ga-Hlahla and Mankweng through requests she received.

For many families, food is a daily struggle during the lockdown period, she said, which is why she decided to share. “I did this in trying to lessen the pressures that we all find ourselves in. While some of us are worried about adapting to a new normal, the economy and many other things, some people are worried about their next meal, which creates even more pressure,” she said.

According to Mapula, the families all received non-perishable foods such as canned food, maize-meal, oil, and fruit and vegetables that could last the families for a while.

“We chose to donate to these homes because these are vulnerable families who cannot afford to buy their own food. Many of them have lost their jobs, so we really tried our best to make sure that they have the basics during this difficult time,” she said. “During the food-drive donation, we have partnered with A1 Supermarket, Dursots All Joy, Many Membered Son, Dotty Doddle Fresh Veggies and other good Samaritans, but we appreciate everyone who stepped in to make this initiative possible,” Mapula said.
