The best advice my mom gave me

With Mother’s Day commemorated on Sunday, Review asked readers what the best advice is they ever received from their moms.

POLOKWANE – The best advice you ever received, you probably received from your mother. A mom’s kiss can heal from a scratched knee to broken heart.

In view of Mother’s Day on Sunday, we asked readers what the best advice is they received from their mothers.

Lize Botha shares the best advice she has received from her mother and wishes other mothers a happy Mother’s Day.

Anel Matthysen: My mom gave me a lot of advice. One important one is to always wrap broken glass in newspapers and place it in a box with the words Beware, Glass written on. With tin cans, she taught me to press the can flat before throwing it away. Another thing I learned from her is everything is earthly material and to let go when needed. She taught us to give to others with a warm and open heart.

Yolande Krogh.

Yolande Krogh: My mom always told me that I have a Father in heaven that looks after me and cares for me. When I went through difficult days, she would remind me that I am a King’s child and that makes me a princess. I need to keep my head up as my crown is falling. So, I learned to always lift my head up and know I am bigger and better than any problem.

Dinah Maphefo Hlakudi: My mom always said remember it’s not what you say, but how you say it.

Zander Kubannek: The best advice my mother has ever given me is was to be humble, keep my feet on the ground and trust in God. Psalm 43: ‘Put your hope in God.’

Bardo van der Vyver: The best advice my Mom gave me was to keep believing in the Lord, as life is unpredictable and the only thing that does not change is the infinite love and grace of the Lord.

Angelique Botes: The best advice my mother ever gave me is to think things through before making a decision or before acting. Whenever I call her for anything she will say: ‘Stay calm, breath, we can sort it out, we will make a plan, give me five minutes I’ll phone you back’. When she phones back, she will always give me three things I can do with what can happen if I do it. She will tell me to think, stand back and observe the situation, you do not always have to react always. Sometimes it’s better to just leave the situation and see how it plays out.
