W’burg cops nab 2 for stolen cash of more than R335 000

The cash was found in a backpack that was hidden in the vehicle as well as in the spare wheel compartment.

POLOKWANE – Westenburg Visible Policing Unit members and traffic officials arrested two 30-year-old suspects who were found in possession of suspected stolen cash of more than R335 000.

The arrests were made on 25 April in the Westenburg policing area outside Polokwane.

According to Police Spokesperson, Brig Motlafela Mojapelo, the suspects were arrested at an intersection near Emdo Park.

“The officers searched the suspects and the luxury vehicle they were travelling in, and discovered a large amount of cash inside a backpack hidden in the boot. The rest of the money was discovered hidden inside the spare wheel compartment,” Mojapelo’s statement reads.

He added that one of the suspects was found in possession of a licensed firearm with ammunition.

“A case of possession of suspected stolen money was opened. The recovered money is part of an investigation to establish its origin,” he said.

The suspects will appear in Polokwane Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, 28 April and police investigations are still continuing.
