Activities to keep the whole family busy during lockdown

Why not use all this extra time to get to know each other a little better by doing some activities that everyone in the family can participate in?

POLOKWANE – The lockdown period may be a test for some as to how much they really enjoy hanging out with their families – constantly being around one another, with nowhere to go besides the occasional visit to the shops for some necessities.

But why not use all this extra time to get to know each other a little better by doing some activities that everyone in the family can participate in?

• Exercise: Even though you are not supposed to leave your house or yard and not everyone has a home gym, there are various exercises you can do. There is yoga, Pilates, crunches, sit-ups and even planking that will work. Even creating an obstacle course will be lots of fun.

• Baking and cooking: You need to eat, so why not include the whole family in the process of making the meal? Bake a cake or some delicious muffins together.

• Giving and receiving a manicure and pedicure: Yes, even dad can be on the receiving side, since he has the time and nowhere to go. Look for face mask recipes online and enjoy a spa-day.

Giving and receiving manicures and pedicures can be a fun activity for family bonding.

• Arts and crafts: You can create decorations for your home or even make gifts for a family who live far away. These crafts work great for upcoming birthdays or Christmas.

• Board-games and puzzles: There are a variety of skills learned by participating in board games with your family or building a puzzle together.

• Reading together: Everyone can have their own book (even if they cannot read yet) or one person in the family can read to the family.

• Pretend play: Pretend you go shopping or go to the doctor or dentist. This way children learn about shopping lists, budgets and the importance of visiting the doctor and dentist.
