R3 million donation for local taxi industry

The CEO of SA Taxi donated R3 million to the taxi industry and the business extended further assistance by providing a payment holiday for April to taxi owners right across the country.

POLOKWANE – The taxi industry in the Capricorn District received a welcome donation from SA Taxi this morning in Polokwane.

Matsidikanye Moswane, Corporate Affairs Executive at SA Taxi, said the survival of the taxi industry and the communities is the survival of SA Taxi, and that is why they assist the taxi associations by donating sanitiser.

He said the CEO of SA Taxi also donated R3 million to the taxi industry, and the business extended further assistance by providing a payment holiday for April to taxi owners right across the country.

The Deputy Minister of Transport, Dikeledi Magadzi, assured taxi owners and operators that the time would come for them to operate fully again, but for the time being they must comply with the regulations during the lockdown period and respect the regulations of social distancing if they want to assist in reducing the spread of the virus.

She said Covid-19 attacks all people, irrespective of age, race or gender and that masks should be worn at all times.

She said all South Africans will feel the pinch of the economy and must start thinking outside the box to help build up the country after the lockdown period.

Premier Chupu Mathabatha urged the taxi industry to play its part in fighting the virus. “We must win the battle or die, but we cannot afford not to win the war. The taxi owners and drivers are known for having differences, but this fight is everybody’s fight and they should all unite against the virus.”
