Westenburg Police nab 2 for suspected stolen copper cable

The value of stolen cables is estimated to the value of R110 000

POLOKWANE – The Westenburg Police have arrested two men following the discovery of  suspected stolen copper cables at a house in Ext 44.

The Westenburg Police Station Commander, Lt Col Maimele Pilusa, confirmed that the copper cables belonged to two well-known essential utilities provider.
“One of the service providers confirmed that the value of stolen cables is estimated to the value of R110 000.”

Pilusa explained that they received information about copper cables at the said house.
“We followed up on the information and found stolen copper cables and taps at the house, and arrested a 31-year-old man for possession of suspected stolen copper cable.

Further investigations led to the arrest of a 37-year-old man. He is an employee of one of the service providers and it is alleged he supplied the copper cables to the 31-year-old suspect who was arrested in Ext 44. He faces a charge of theft of copper cable.

Both suspects will appear before the Polokwane Magistrate’s Court soon.

Pilusa warned scrap metal dealers to refrain from buying prohibited items, like copper cables.
“We will not hesitate to arrest scrap metal dealers in possession of these prohibited items. We plead with these business owners to report any suspicious items at their premises to the police.”
