DA opens case against Makhado councillor for ‘partying’ while under lockdown

The DA is in possession of a video clip that shows the ANC councillor apparently violating the regulations by hosting a birthday bash for herself, where she it is said that she can be seen celebrating with a Makhado businessman and others.

LIMPOPO – The DA in Limpopo has on Tuesday 14 April laid charges against Makhado Municipality PR councillor Tebogo Mamarobela for violating the lockdown regulations.

This, as the DA was in possession of a video clip that shows the ANC councillor apparently violating the regulations by hosting a birthday bash for herself, where she it is said that she can be seen celebrating with a Makhado businessman and others.
DA Provincial Leader Jacques Smalle alleges the video was taken on 12 April 2020, which was councillor Mamarobela’s 39th birthday, he said.

“The DA has handed a copy of the video over to the SAPS as evidence when the charge was laid. We have laid the charge because no one is above the law and the lockdown regulations are there to save lives and must be taken seriously. In a time when thousands of ordinary citizens have been arrested for violating the lock down regulations, it is incumbent upon public office bearers to set an example.”
The DA further calls upon the councillor to publicly apologise for her behaviour.
Makhado Municipal Spokesperson Louis Bobodi said the municipality was aware that a case has been laid against the councillor. “We will be commencing with internal investigations, and will institute action based on the outcomes of the internal investigations.”
Attempts by Review to get a hold of the councillor were fruitless at the time of publishing.
