Limpopo police confiscate over R700K worth of illicit cigarettes from Lephalale shop

A 27-year-old man was also arrested for trading in in illicit cigarettes

LIMPOPO – A tip-off led the seizure of illicit cigarettes worth over R700 000 on Monday, 6 April, says the police.

Police Spokesperson, Brig Motlafela Mojapelo says the arrest of the 27-year-old man came after police in Lephalale received information about illicit cigarettes being sold at a shop in the central business district (CBD), located a few blocks from the police station.

On arrival at the said shop, the police found multiple packs of illicit cigarettes in a storeroom. The cigarettes are estimated to the value of R750 000, says Mojapelo.

The arrested man will appear in the Lephalale Magistrate’s Court on Thursday, 8 April on a charge of tradiing in illicit cigarettes. His accomplice who manage to evade arerst during the raid is still being sought by police.
