Pogisho: proud to have served the Wuhan quarantine group

The certificate he received from the president for his duty during the quarantine of the Wuhan repatriates, was a mere formality and a bonus.

POLOKWANE – This is according to Pogisho Lekganyane, a worker from The Ranch Resort outside Polokwane, where the group was quarantined after being brought back from China.

It was, however, the rain on the day of their arrival that brought him much the reassurance that he was doing the right thing by reporting for duty – not only at work but also for his country.

“At first, there was much apprehension.  We didn’t know what to expect.  I soon realised this was based on misinformation.”

Once the Inter-ministerial Command team arrived and explained to us what the situation entailed, did we fully understand what it means to be classified as a quarantine site.

He described the events that unfolded when the group arrived at The Ranch by late March.

“When they arrived, we warmly welcomed them. In my section, we had to ensure that they eat on a daily basis.  Daily screenings were done for everyone stationed on the premises, including staff and the military personnel.”

The group, he said, was fully cooperative, punctual and pleasant to be around.

“On a social level, we were sceptical at first because we didn’t know what to expect.  We soon realised it was just our compatriots who had come home.  They deserved to be home.”

Should it be expected from him to serve his country in this way again, Pogisho said he would not hesitate.

“I felt a deep sense of fulfilment.  Today, I am truly proud to have served my country.  The certificate I received was just a bonus,” he said.
